Everything’s Made Up, and Story Points Don’t Matter!!

hqdefault

Everyone knows that Story Points are just made up numbers that don’t really mean a thing. But, why don’t we use some some REAL data from a REAL TEAM to finally PROVE that Story Points don’t really matter.

If you are using JIRA and have access to the Actionable Agile plug-in (they do offer a free trial), give this a shot and let us know what YOUR data says about Story Points!

How to use Actionable Agile to track Flow Metrics: A deep dive

hqdefault 1

Don’t forget to Subscribe! Our next video will show you how to use your own data with Actionable Agile (and a bit of Excel) to prove once and for all that Story Points don’t really work.

Flow Metrics are far superior to Story Points and Velocity when it comes to understanding a teams ability to get value to market.

Many tools like JIRA capture all the data required to track Flow Metrics, but do a poor job of surfacing this information. Actionable Agile (https://actionableagile.com) is a tool that works with JIRA and Azure Devops, and it does a fantastic job of presenting Flow Metrics in a way that is easy to understand and can lead to some actionable insights.

The thing about empiricism is that sometimes you are wrong. And that’s OK. It’s the entire point of Agile.

Using Jira for Professional Scrum: My Top 5 Tips

maxresdefault 6

The reality is that most developers and agile practitioners do not get much say in which tool they use to manage their Scrum artifacts. And yet, we still need them to enable our individuals to have positive interactions.

I recommend taking RESPONSIBILITY for using your tools in a professional manner.

These are my top 5 tips for doing just that:

#5: Visualize PBIs instead of sub-tasks
#4: Don’t forget to set a resolution on whatever your Done transition is
#3: Use Days In Column
#2: Use Actionable Agile
#1: Let the team control their workflow!
